Makin good memories in the mexico mtc!
Today was my first legit p day, we enjoyed an amazing endowment session totally in Spanish at the mexico city temple, I'm happy to say, I understood a good amount of it! an absolutely gorgeous temple with a really cool history.
The mexico city temple's land is to this day owned by the Mexican government,
Because when it was built the law of the land was
: a church couldn't purchase a large piece of land for a place of worship.
: a church couldn't purchase a large piece of land for a place of worship.
So for while, they held off building a temple in mexico, although the people of South america and Spain were so desperate for a temple performing ordinances in Spanish, they traveled many thousands of miles to the Mesa Arizona temple, selling ALL they had, and renting busses to recieve these amazing blessings and most of them never had the chance to return to any temple again.
A church authority decided to do something, his idea was to write a contract to rent the land from the Mexican government to build a temple in mexico city. This would mean at anytime the authorities could come in and search the building, so they built a gorgeous visitor center, show them that first, then if they really need to search/see the inside they would close it down, and rededicate the temple later. And it was worth the risk even if they had to do this every week simply because of the major necessity of a temple in South america.
Luckily this temple has not been closed and rededicated for this reason.
Thanks for reading this far I just find that story fascinating!
